The Vistula River Rosary in Czerwińsk

The Vistula River Rosary is a unique event that bonds together fans of relaxation on the water with the followers of the Virgin Mary of Consolation from the Salesian sanctuary in Czerwińsk by the Vistula river. This recreational and religious gathering takes place during the summer and fall. In 2019, sailing trips were planned for July 7th, August 18th, September 15th and October 13th.

The voyage route covers towns of Wychódźc, Secymin, Zdziarka, Praga and Czerwińsk. The boats sail for about 2 or 3 hours , depending on the Vistula water level. During the sailing trip, there are short religious instructions and the participants pray the rosary and sing. At the end, the partakers and accompanying people receive a blessing.

This special event has taken place since 2017. One of its initiators was father Łukasz Mastalerz, the head priest of the Czerwińsk parish, who explained the reasons behind such an undertaking. One was to celebrate the Year of the Vistula River in a fashion aligned with the credo of the believers, another was to celebrate the 100 anniversary of the apparition of the Madonna of Fatima, and yet one more was to encourage people to pray the rosary.

Moreover, a link was established with the Fraternity of St. Barbara, who years ago, traditionally connected the water scouts with the Czerwińsk sanctuary.
Judging by the widespread interest, the idea of combining recreation on the water with a spiritual component has been an excellent one. The number of participants has been steadily growing. In the last voyage from Wychódźc, there were 21 boats with nearly 50 members, but many more people were attracted. At times, entire families hailing from Czerwińsk and other communities on both sides of the river took part in the voyage, and some came from places further away such as Warsaw. One can easily say that this religious expedition has a widespread appeal that draws in not just the locals, but also participants from the entire region.
