Pilgrimage of Fans of Boating from Czerwińsk Hill to Tumskie Hill

For the past two years, there has been a unique pilgrimage that takes place on the Vistula river. The inspiration for this event came from the, so called, Vistula Rosaries: short river passages in the summer months from nearby villages to Czerwińsk, combined with rosary prayers.

The pilgrimage occurs from Czerwińsk to Płock. It is in Płock, at the Diocese Museum on Tumskie Hill, that the relics of Saint Barbara are held for safekeeping. She is the patron of sailors and her remains were kept at the Czerwińsk monastery for ages. The purpose of the
pilgrimage is to pay homage to St. Barbara on behalf of fans of boating from the Vistula parishes of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Czerwińsk and the parishes in Wyszogród and Smoszewo. It is also a great opportunity for bonding among these water scouts and promotion of active rest in nature, not to mention the distinct beauty of the Vistula, the Queen of Polish Rivers, on that stretch.

The first pilgrimage took place in 2017 and the second in 2019. There were 80 water scouts on 19 sailing units that participated in the last one. These were motor boats, pontoons and traditional boats, so called “pychówki”. They covered over 50 kilometers to reach the Castle of Bishops of Płock on the Tumskie Hill in Płock, where the Diocese Museum is located. Before leaving the river, the pilgrims were greeted by captain Stanislaw Fedelis from the Fraternity of St. Barbara in Płock. Then, there was a mass held at the Płock Cathedral in the intention of water scouts. Relics of St. Barbara were used to bestow blessings upon them.
